Welcome

"I love food and eat out a lot, but am not so keen on the preparation side. Can't cook, won't cook really. I do program however. The Microwave that is. So I have developed an appreciation for so called "Ready Meals". So much so, that I am using this blog as a means of keeping track of the ones I like.

I am not restricting myself to just meals, I am tracking any packaged food that I want to remember to buy again.

Here's hoping my favorites don't get discontinued!"

Whole Tail Scottish Scampi - Marks & Spencer

Picture

Verdict

Two servings of 5 scampi each. I enjoyed the first couple, but not really sure about this dish, the batter was a bit too peppery for my taste.

Duchess Potatoes - Lidl

Picture

Verdict

Quick and easy, take about 20 minutes from frozen - probably enough for 5 portions in one pack. They also look nice.  Tasty if you add some salt and a bit of pepper.

Caramella Ice Cream - Tesco

Picture

Verdict

Basically ice cream with some caramel sauce and little bits of fudge. Like most ice creams in this sort of tub (Carte D'or being a prime example) the bulk of the flavouring is just on the top, so it looks more interesting than it is, but despite that I did enjoy it. It's nice creamy vanilla flavoured inexpensive ice cream.

Hake Fillets, Mediterranean Vegtable Topping - Marks & Spencer

Picture

Verdict

Really enjoyed - you can freeze and defrost, which is what I did, that made the marinate a little bit watery, so next time will not freeze first. Nice with boiled new potatoes.

BBQ Spare Ribs - Lidl

Verdict

A large rack - two large portions, BBQ sauce is a bit sweet, but ok, nicer if you add your own sauce. Have with baked potatoes and sour cream

OceanSea Chilli Salmon - Lidl

Picture

Verdict

Excellent value for money, about 1/2 the price of equivalent weight from Marks & Spencer. Norwegian Salmon from Poland. More than enough for two servings. Chilli marinate is quite strong but it works.

Manchego Cheese & Piquillo Croquettas - Marks & Spencer

Verdict

Best tasting Croquetes I have had from a supermarket.  The Chilli Mayo is pretty hot, but works well with the Croquetes.

Good deal when included as part of £10 meal for 2 offer.

Marinated Chicken with Patatas Bravas & Garlic Alioli - Marks & Spence

Hellmanns Ceasar dressing versus Tesco's Garlic and Herb dressing

Picture

Verdict

No comparison, Hellmanns wins by a mile, it's really moreish. The Tesco's own one is less creamy and just too sharp for my taste.

Yes to Hellmanns
No to Tesco own brand

Santini Tomatoes - Marks & Spencer

Picture

Verdict

The only supermarket tomatoes worth buying, much more flavour than other ranges I have tried. Find myself eating them on their own, but great with Wild Rocket and Hellmanns Ceasar dressing.
